River Secrets review

River Secrets
Book three in the Books of Bayern series by Shannon Hale

Razo has no idea why he was chosen to be a soldier. He can barely swing a sword, and his brothers are forever wrestling him to the. great enemy.
But when the Bayern arrive in the strange southern country, Razo discovers the first dead body. He befriends both the high and low born, people who can perhaps provide them with vital information. And Razo is the one who must embrace his own talents in order to get the Bayern soldiers home again, alive.
Newbery-Honor winner Shannon Hale returns the reader to the intrigue and magic of Bayern, first introduced in her critically acclaimed novel, The Goose Girl. Enter a world where even those with no special magical skills find in themselves something they never imagined.

In River Secrets you get to revisit some of your old friends from the previous books.
In this book Razo is chosen to go on a mission to help and protect the ambassador while they try to make amends with the people of Tira.
It proves to be more difficult than they thought, many people still have grudges from the war.
It's up to Razo to seek out information, and try to solve the mystery.
Along the way, Razo has to use his talents to help him overcome obstacles.

River Secrets is a great book. It has a lot of action, romance, humour and suspense. Razo is a fun character and is sure to get a few laughs. I like this series because you get to learn about all the characters in each book.
Enna burning and River secrets have a bit more fighting than the first book Goose Girl. However, it is very light and no matter how serious it is there will always be some humor to lighten the mood.

My rating: ****meg-a-stars
